Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has introduced a new real-time baggage tracking capability within its mobile app, giving travellers direct, on-demand insight into the movement of their checked luggage across the airport ecosystem.
As part of ACSA’s broader digital modernisation strategy, the tool uses the passenger’s booking reference and flight date to surface live updates on where a bag is in the processing chain, from the moment it is accepted at check-in to the point it is loaded onto the aircraft. The feature is designed to increase transparency and reduce uncertainty at a time when passenger volumes are steadily rising.
According to ACSA, the new capability reflects its commitment to building smarter, more automated airport operations that place the passenger at the centre of the experience. By enabling travellers to follow the handling of their own baggage, the company aims to provide the kind of digital convenience and reassurance increasingly expected in global aviation.
“This upgrade marks another milestone in our digital transformation,” says Sello Makhubela, ACSA’s interim Chief Information Officer. “Giving passengers real-time insight into the status of their luggage not only enhances convenience, but also strengthens confidence in the systems that support our operations. Technology is enabling us to elevate the travel experience in meaningful ways, and this feature is one of several innovations we are rolling out to deliver a seamless, world-class journey.”
The enhanced ACSA Mobile App, now equipped with the baggage-tracking function, is available on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei AppGallery. The company notes that this release is part of a wider roadmap to integrate digital tools across its airport network to streamline processes and ensure greater consistency and reliability for passengers.
