South African technology company Eden AI has introduced BlossomCare, an AI-powered mental health support platform designed for vulnerable women in Africa, including sex workers and pregnant teens. Eden AI, founded in 2021 by Oluwabamigbe Oni, operates as a health-focused technology platform that develops AI-driven solutions across Africa, specializing in data science, machine learning, and computer vision applications.
BlossomCare was developed through a partnership with the Blossom Girls Outreach Foundation (BGOF) and provides 24/7 emotional support through WhatsApp in English, Yoruba, and Pidgin languages. The platform offers referrals to psychologists, peer groups, and legal aid services, with escalation protocols for high-risk cases requiring in-person care.
According to Oni, vulnerable women in Africa face stigma and limited mental health resources, while 86% of women own mobile phones but have access to few digital mental health services designed for their specific needs. The platform addresses this gap by combining AI technology with multilingual support and community-based outreach methods.
The system utilizes large language models integrated with community networks to deliver private mental health care without stigma. BlossomCare represents Eden AI's approach to leveraging technology for health and social applications across African markets.
The company has expanded from its origins as a consulting firm into a platform delivering AI solutions for health-related challenges throughout the continent. The mental health platform reflects the company's focus on developing technology applications that address social and healthcare needs in African communities.
