A South African startup is reimagining how businesses connect with customers by launching a new WhatsApp-based business directory and marketplace called Clinch.
Developed by The Messenger Network (TMN), a company known for its innovative WhatsApp Business API solutions, Clinch allows businesses in South Africa to showcase their products and services directly through the country’s most widely used messaging platform.
Positioned as the first of its kind globally, Clinch lets users search for local businesses, browse offerings, and make purchases, all without ever leaving WhatsApp. The idea is to turn everyday conversations into seamless commerce, streamlining everything from discovery to checkout within a single chat interface.
According to Xander Barnard, managing director at TMN, the motivation behind the platform is simple: “Emails don’t close deals. WhatsApp does.” Clinch was built to make interactions between businesses and customers faster, more personal, and ultimately more effective. With the slogan “WhatsApp. Search. Shop.”, the platform highlights how messaging apps can go far beyond communication, becoming powerful tools for business growth.
