Germany-based IT consulting and solutions company evoila has acquired Routed, a cloud service provider headquartered in South Africa. The transaction expands evoila’s operations in Africa and adds Routed’s cloud infrastructure services to its portfolio. The Routed team will remain with the business, and the company will continue operating under its existing leadership.
According to evoila, the acquisition is part of its international expansion strategy, with a focus on markets where demand for cloud services is increasing. South Africa and other African markets are included in this plan.
Johannes Hiemer, CEO of evoila, says the company evaluates new markets based on technical capability, operational experience and alignment between organisations. He notes that Routed has delivered VMware Cloud Foundation–based services for several years and operates a team with experience in enterprise cloud environments.
Routed has appeared on the Financial Times Africa’s Fastest Growing Companies list for three consecutive years up to 2025. Managing Director Andrew Cruise says the acquisition represents a change in the company’s ownership structure while maintaining its operational focus.
“Routed was established to address demand for locally hosted cloud infrastructure with defined operational and economic parameters. As part of evoila, the company will operate within a broader delivery framework while continuing to provide cloud services to its customers,” says Cruise.
As part of the transaction, Cruise, along with Lee Syse and Benjamin Coetzer, will continue in their current roles. The companies state that existing customer and partner relationships will be maintained.
Under the evoila brand, Routed will continue to operate its VMware-based hosted private cloud platforms. These platforms are used by organisations seeking cloud environments that meet local regulatory and data residency requirements.
evoila says the acquisition adds a cloud operations team based in Africa to its global structure, while Routed gains access to evoila’s consulting framework and international delivery model. The combined organisation will support cloud deployments based on VMware Cloud Foundation across multiple regions.
Hiemer states that evoila is building a network of cloud providers using a common technology stack, enabling service delivery across different markets. Routed’s VMware Cloud Verified platform will be incorporated into this framework.
Lars Göbel, Chief Commercial Officer at evoila, says the company works with service providers to support the operation of cloud services based on VMware technologies. He adds that evoila plans to extend this model through selected partnerships in different regions.
Cruise concludes that customers and partners will continue working with the same teams and service structures, with additional access to evoila’s international capabilities.
