Gebeya and InterNetX partner for African domain access

Companies integrate services to allow domain registration on Gebeya platforms using African payment methods, removing requirements for foreign currency and international credit cards.

Gebeya, an AI platform company focused on Africa’s service economy, and InterNetX, a European domain registrar within the IONOS Group, have entered into an agreement to facilitate domain acquisition directly within Gebeya’s digital infrastructure.

InterNetX will integrate its AutoDNS domain platform into Gebeya’s Jitume AI marketplace and Dala AI creator studio, enabling the search, purchase, and management of domain names using local currencies and payment methods. This arrangement addresses existing barriers where African entrepreneurs and small businesses often cannot secure domains due to low domestic ownership rates and international payment restrictions.

Gebeya, which reports over 90,000 users, stated that domain purchase was frequently identified by its user base as a significant obstacle because of USD payment requirements and reliance on international credit cards. The partnership seeks to eliminate these constraints. Utilizing a white-label integration model, InterNetX's capabilities for domain search, registration, and SSL provisioning will be embedded within Gebeya’s platforms, designed to allow the completion of a professional online presence in minutes via local transactions.

By working with InterNetX, Daffe said Gebeya can provide domain access to its users, removing friction associated with international payments and allowing them to own their digital identity.

Elias Rendón Berger, CEO of InterNetX, stated that the partnership supports Africa’s digital entrepreneurs by combining InterNetX’s infrastructure with Gebeya’s market position and payment rails. The integration will offer domain ownership through mobile money and local payments, transactions in local currencies, and the bundling of domains, SSL, and website functionality, supported by Gebeya’s commitment to locally-hosted solutions.
