Kaspersky has launched Cybersecurity: Entry Level, a free online course for first- and second-year university students across technical and non-technical specialties. The course introduces fundamental concepts of information security and is designed to help universities integrate cybersecurity awareness into early stages of education.
According to Kaspersky's IT Security Economics report, 88% of organizations globally encountered at least one cyber incident in 2024, with human error remaining a contributing factor to security breaches. As industries rely on digital infrastructure, demand for professionals with cybersecurity knowledge is growing across disciplines.
The Cybersecurity: Entry Level course provides cybersecurity fundamentals delivered through video lessons by Kaspersky experts. The course covers four topics: basic concepts of cybersecurity, attacker tools and types of cyberattacks, areas of cybersecurity, and the future of cybersecurity. The training teaches cybersecurity terms and concepts, information security fields, and attacker tactics and techniques. A separate session offers career guidance for students considering cybersecurity career paths, outlining skills and expertise required for information security roles.
The course was created by cybersecurity experts from Kaspersky Expertise Centers and includes theoretical knowledge alongside cases and emerging trends. It contains 26 lessons ranging from five to thirty minutes in length. Self-assessment questions follow each topic, and participants who complete all tests and pass the final evaluation with at least 70% receive a Kaspersky certificate of completion.
"Cybersecurity is no longer the sole responsibility of information security departments, it's a shared responsibility across all teams. By introducing cybersecurity concepts awareness early in a student's academic journey, universities can help build a workforce that is not only technically proficient but also security-conscious from day one. In today's threat landscape, competitiveness begins with preparedness, and this course delivers exactly that," said Evgeniya Russkikh, Head of Academic Affairs at Kaspersky.
The course is available for members of Kaspersky Academy Alliance, a partnership program for universities to integrate cybersecurity expertise and Kaspersky technologies into teaching. Universities can implement the course into their educational programs through learning management systems by request. More information about the Cybersecurity: Entry Level online course and other Kaspersky educational initiatives is available at the Kaspersky Academy website.
