Moniepoint integrates Orda Technology to centralize nigerian restaurant operations

The acquisition enables automated reconciliation by embedding payment infrastructure directly into business management software for food vendors.

The Nigerian fintech platform Moniepoint has completed the acquisition of Orda’s domestic operations, a move designed to merge payment processing with essential business management tools. Founded in 2020, Orda developed a technical stack for the hospitality sector that includes point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory tracking, and business analytics.

These capabilities are being integrated into the newly rebranded "Moniebook for Restaurants," while Orda’s Kenyan branch continues to function as a separate entity. This transition includes the transfer of 25 Orda team members to Moniepoint to oversee the technical continuity of the platform.

The primary objective of this integration is the elimination of operational fragmentation. Traditionally, many African restaurants have managed orders through one software provider while processing payments via a separate terminal, a process that necessitates manual data reconciliation. By unifying these layers, Moniepoint’s technology allows transactions to be automatically matched with sales records in real-time. This structural change targets common inefficiencies such as accounting errors and visibility gaps in cash flow.

From a strategic perspective, Moniepoint is shifting from a hardware-centric approach to a software-embedded model. Since restaurants currently account for a significant portion of the company's transaction volume, with daily terminal expenditures exceeding ?8 billion in 2025, the focus is now on capturing the entire business workflow. This vertical integration provides the firm with granular data on inventory trends and revenue patterns. Consequently, this data depth allows for more accurate risk assessment when providing financial products, such as working capital loans, to operators.

This consolidation follows a broader trend of technical convergence within the Nigerian food industry. It mirrors recent activity by Chowdeck, which acquired the POS startup Mira in 2025 to bolster its own delivery and management ecosystem. For Moniepoint, the Orda acquisition serves as a technical bridge, allowing the company to scale a specialized operating system across its existing user base. As the transition unfolds, current Orda clients will migrate to the unified system, gaining access to a broader suite of financial services managed under a single digital interface.
