The arrangement would let mutual customers move data and run applications across both platforms over a private, managed connection without third-party network providers

Oracle, the enterprise software and cloud infrastructure company, and Amazon Web Services, the cloud computing division of Amazon, have announced plans to connect their respective interconnect services, Oracle Interconnect and AWS Interconnect, multicloud, to allow shared customers to establish private, high-speed networking between the two platforms.

The connection is designed to address a practical problem facing companies that run workloads across more than one cloud provider. Today, linking OCI and AWS environments typically requires managing separate network providers or installing physical infrastructure to bridge the two. The planned integration would replace that with a single managed connection, removing the need for customers to configure and maintain the networking layer themselves.

The arrangement builds on existing collaboration between the two companies. Oracle already operates Oracle AI Database@AWS, which allows customers to run Oracle database workloads inside AWS environments using the same architecture and features available on OCI or on-premises. The interconnect partnership extends that logic from database to network, covering both full-stack deployments, where an entire application runs on one cloud, and split-stack setups, where different components sit on different platforms.

"Oracle continues to advance multicloud connectivity as part of its commitment to helping customers unlock flexibility, agility, and performance across clouds," said Nathan Thomas, senior vice president, product management, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. "With Oracle AI Database@AWS, we pioneered a simpler way for customers to run Oracle AI Database workloads in AWS with the same features, architecture, and performance as they expect on-premises. We're now building on that by establishing connectivity between our popular cross-cloud interconnect and AWS Interconnect–multicloud. This will help our mutual customers modernize their applications, unify their data, and unlock new generative AI opportunities."

OCI currently operates interconnect capabilities across 26 partner cloud regions. The AWS connection is planned to be available later this year, starting in the AWS US East (N. Virginia) us-east-1 region.
