An education technology startup from South Africa has successfully raised $11 million (approximately R195 million) in a funding round aimed at accelerating its international growth strategy.

The investment was spearheaded by Kaltroco, a Jersey-based private investment firm, alongside investment professionals operating from Nashville, Zurich, and Cape Town. Known for its flexible investment approach, Kaltroco operates as an independent, family-backed entity without external investors or structural limitations.

The freshly acquired capital will be allocated toward advancing artificial intelligence capabilities, implementing multilingual support features, building operational teams in strategic global markets, and forging stronger alliances with academic institutions and corporate partners worldwide.

According to CEO and co-founder Nicholas Riemer, the funding represents validation of South African innovation on the global stage. The investment will enable accelerated AI development while ensuring educational accessibility and assessment integrity through continuous AI-powered monitoring systems.

Platform Adoption

Over 100 educational institutions currently utilize the company's assessment solutions, including prominent names such as Varsity College, Regenesys Business School, Curro Academy Schools, Eduvos, and Boston City Campus.

Established in 2020, the company emerged to tackle academic integrity challenges while providing secure, cost-effective examination monitoring solutions, particularly valuable in resource-limited settings.

The platform recently introduced an AI detection capability that enables educators to identify when artificial intelligence tools have been employed in student work, assignments, and evaluations. This feature analyzes individual responses and creates unique student writing profiles, helping educators intervene when students become overly dependent on AI assistance at the expense of developing critical thinking abilities.

With this strategic funding, the company positions itself to become a dominant force in secure remote assessment technology while showcasing African innovation excellence internationally.
