Amazon South Africa hosted its second Seller Summit, bringing together more than 300 entrepreneurs, marketplace sellers and industry participants to focus on how small and medium-sized businesses can use the company’s platform to grow their operations.
The event centered on the tools and infrastructure available on Amazon.co.za, including features that support product listing, advertising, logistics and order fulfilment. Sessions also explored how sellers can use platform data and automation features to manage operations and reach customers more efficiently. Hands-on workshops and discussions with Amazon specialists were designed to help sellers understand how to apply these capabilities in their day-to-day activities.
According to Robert Koen, managing director for sub-Saharan Africa, independent sellers play a central role in the marketplace. “We’re focused on the ongoing success of our independent sellers as they are fundamental to our ability to offer a broad selection, great prices, and a convenient shopping experience for our customers,” he said.
The programme also included a keynote by Mushambi Mutuma, who discussed how businesses can adapt their operations as digital channels evolve, with a focus on practical approaches to growth and market positioning.
A key moment of the event was the introduction of the Amazon South Africa Seller Awards, which recognised businesses operating on the platform based on performance and customer outcomes. Among the recipients, Romtech Online received the Golden Smile Award for overall performance and customer satisfaction, while SKIN Functional and A & F Home were recognised in categories focused on local brand development and early-stage growth.
“The significant success we’ve experienced on Amazon is a direct result of their commitment to providing excellent value, supported by a team that enables us to sell without friction,” said Jacque Keth. “Amazon has demonstrated that they genuinely care about their marketplace sellers and are eager to build a strong, mutually beneficial, and lasting relationship with us.”
The summit reflects a broader shift in South Africa’s retail sector, where more businesses are using digital marketplaces to access customers beyond their immediate regions. By combining logistics infrastructure, seller tools and operational guidance, Amazon is positioning its platform as a channel for local companies to manage sales, distribution and customer engagement within a single environment.
