AvePoint expands multi-cloud data management platform into South African cloud regions

AvePoint has begun delivering its data management and protection services from Azure and AWS commercial cloud regions in South Africa, enabling organisations to operate workloads locally while meeting data-residency requirements under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
The company’s platform is now hosted in data centres in Johannesburg and Cape Town, allowing customers to store and process Microsoft 365, Azure and AWS data within South African borders. Many organisations have previously relied on infrastructure outside the country, often in Europe or the Middle East, to meet compliance or availability needs, creating challenges around latency, data-transfer rules and local privacy obligations. The new deployment provides an option for running multi-cloud data protection and governance tools without cross-border transfers.
AvePoint will offer its Confidence Platform from the local regions, providing backup, recovery, governance, compliance monitoring and migration services across major SaaS and cloud environments. The company says the move is intended to support organisations with strict data-sovereignty requirements, including those operating in regulated or critical-infrastructure sectors.
Lloyd Baffour, regional director for AvePoint South Africa, said the expansion is aligned with the increasing emphasis on in-country cloud operations. According to him, organisations seeking to modernise their environments can now integrate cloud-based data management tools while retaining control over where information is stored and processed.
The rollout comes as investment in cloud and digital infrastructure grows across the African continent. While global cloud providers have established local compute regions, AvePoint becomes one of the first independent software vendors to deliver its SaaS data-protection and governance platform directly from South African commercial cloud sites.
With the new hosting locations, organisations gain access to locally delivered backup, governance, compliance and migration capabilities that support POPIA obligations and reduce technical and administrative complexity associated with offshore data hosting.
