Binance Pay has partnered with South African payment provider Zapper to enable cryptocurrency payments at over 31,000 merchants across the country. The integration allows users to pay with digital assets through Zapper's QR code payment system.
Binance Pay operates as a contactless payment feature within the Binance app that enables users to send, receive, and spend cryptocurrency without gas fees. The service supports over 400 digital assets for person-to-person transactions and more than 100 cryptocurrencies for merchant payments. The platform currently serves 45 million users globally.
The partnership expands Binance Pay's merchant network to over 63,000 businesses worldwide, with the platform having processed more than 300 million transactions. Users can now make cryptocurrency payments at participating South African locations including restaurants, retail stores, and fuel stations.
Zapper operates one of South Africa's established payment systems, utilizing QR codes for in-store and online transactions. The integration enables customers to use cryptocurrency for payments at locations where Zapper is accepted, including KFC, Wimpy, Mugg & Bean, Dis-Chem, Baby City, Coricraft, Yuppiechef, FlySafair, Total, and Sasol.
Yande Nomvete from Binance South Africa stated that the service provides users with payment flexibility and freedom in how they spend money. The integration covers both physical and online merchants, making cryptocurrency spending accessible across different transaction types.
Binance Pay is offering a 50% cashback promotion on transactions made at participating Zapper merchants starting September 9, 2025. The promotion applies to all qualifying purchases and is designed to encourage initial adoption of cryptocurrency payments among South African users.
