FlexWork, a South African startup founded by Nhlanhla Mabena in September, has launched a digital recruitment platform aimed at simplifying how small and medium-sized businesses manage hiring. The system brings job posting, application management and candidate communication into a single interface designed to reduce the fragmentation that often slows the hiring process.
Employers can oversee each stage of recruitment from a unified dashboard, ensuring applications remain visible and the status of each candidate is clear throughout the process. For applicants, FlexWork offers tools to upload CVs, share portfolios or project work, and view real-time updates on their submissions. The platform also provides personalised job suggestions through automated alerts based on user profiles and skills.
Mabena developed FlexWork after observing that many qualified candidates were not advancing in traditional hiring channels because applications were frequently lost in email chains or unstructured workflows. The platform uses a skills-oriented model in place of role-based matching, enabling a closer alignment between applicants’ competencies and employers’ needs.
Targeted primarily at South African SMEs, FlexWork operates as a self-service recruitment system rather than a job board or agency model. By automating administrative steps and consolidating communication, the platform gives smaller organisations access to hiring capabilities typically found in larger enterprises.
