iDGuardian unveils AI-Driven Identity Verification tool for mobile-based authentication

The solution targets financial institutions and verification providers operating in emerging and informal markets.

South African startup iDGuardian has introduced an AI-enabled identity verification system designed to convert biometric data into cryptographic proof for digital authentication. The technology aims to support fintechs, banks, and verification service providers seeking to validate identities through mobile devices rather than specialised hardware.
The solution originated within Raizin Vault, a neobank infrastructure company founded by entrepreneur Basie Pharedi. Conceived in 2024 and prototyped in 2025 under the Raizin AI Studio, iDGuardian uses light analysis, gesture recognition and AI-driven processing to capture and verify organic biometric signals. The company says the approach is intended to operate across a broad range of smartphones without reliance on high-cost infrastructure.
Pharedi notes that the product was developed in response to identity verification challenges affecting informal economies and individuals without standard identity documentation. He believes existing KYC and biometric tools are often too centralised or infrastructure-heavy for many African markets.
Although still pre-funding and pre-revenue, iDGuardian has completed its prototype and begun sharing product material with potential industry partners. Initial outreach has generated interest from banks, fintech firms and digital verification players in South Africa.
The company plans to focus first on domestic adoption, particularly in township and informal economic environments. Longer term, it expects to expand into other sub-Saharan African markets where digital identity systems remain fragmented but mobile penetration is high.
