Two prominent South African rugby players, Pieter-Steph Du Toit and RG Snyman, have entered a six-month partnership with cybersecurity company Kaspersky to promote digital safety awareness among sports enthusiasts across South Africa.
The collaboration, titled "Safer Together," combines the athletes' influence with Kaspersky's security expertise to address growing concerns about online threats facing everyday internet users. As part of the initiative, consumers can access a 25% discount on Kaspersky Premium software using the code "SaferTogether," with the opportunity to win jerseys signed by both players.
Kaspersky, a Moscow-based cybersecurity and anti-virus provider founded in 1997, develops security software for consumers and businesses worldwide. The company has previously sponsored various sports initiatives, including partnerships with the Mumbai Indians cricket team, international esports organizations, and athletes in motorsport, chess, and snooker.
According to Kim Grobbelaar, Consumer Channel Manager for the Middle East and Africa at Kaspersky, the partnership addresses a gap in public understanding of digital security. "Most people know they should be safer online but are not always sure where to start," Grobbelaar stated, noting that the familiar context of rugby could help make cybersecurity more accessible to the general public.
Du Toit, a World Rugby Player of the Year winner, and Snyman, known for his performances with Munster and the Springboks, will promote digital security awareness through their social media channels alongside Kaspersky's official platforms throughout the campaign period.
The initiative comes as cybersecurity threats continue to rise globally, with South African consumers increasingly targeted by online fraud, data breaches, and identity theft. The partnership represents Kaspersky's latest effort to expand its consumer education initiatives in the African market.
