MTN Group, Africa’s largest telecoms operator, has completed the migration of its Enterprise Value Analytics (EVA) platform in South Africa to Microsoft Azure as part of an update to its data infrastructure.

According to the company, the new cloud-based version of the platform, referred to as EVA 3.0, supports the processing and analysis of large volumes of business and customer data. The system is designed to support operational monitoring, data-driven decision-making, and the use of artificial intelligence within the organisation.

MTN reported that the platform handles approximately 22 billion data records per day and operates more than 800 analytics workflows, drawing from over 1,700 data sources. The implementation is described by the company as its largest cloud-based analytics environment across its operations in the Middle East and Africa.

EVA 3.0 is built using Azure Databricks and incorporates security controls supported by Microsoft Defender. MTN stated that the updated platform delivers higher processing capacity compared to its previous analytics environment.

The company indicated that the platform enables near real-time analysis of service and customer-related data, supporting earlier identification of operational issues and trends.

Nikos Angelopoulos, Group Chief Information Officer at MTN, said the platform is intended to improve the organisation’s ability to analyse data at scale and apply data insights across its operations, while maintaining security standards within a cloud environment.

Rick Lievano, Worldwide Chief Technology Officer for Telecommunications at Microsoft, commented that data analytics and artificial intelligence continue to play a role in telecommunications operations, including network optimisation, service development, and customer engagement.
