TymeBank announces partnership with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA)

The partnership will reinforce data security and system integrity, ensuring that Smart IDs and passports are issued with the highest levels of protection and reliability.

TymeBank has entered into a partnership with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) to provide South Africans with access to Smart ID and passport applications at TymeBank locations. The initiative aims to expand the DHA’s capacity to deliver services across the country.

As part of this program, TymeBank will make its infrastructure available to support the DHA’s digital service delivery. According to the DHA, TymeBank is one of eight banks in South Africa participating in the initiative. The services will include applications for Smart IDs and passports, which will be processed and issued by the DHA.

The DHA has stated that this partnership will make Smart IDs and passports more accessible, including to citizens in remote areas. Minister of Home Affairs Dr. Leon Schreiber said the collaboration is part of broader efforts to increase the availability of Home Affairs services outside of traditional government offices.

TymeBank CEO Karl Westvig said the bank’s role will be to provide the digital and physical infrastructure necessary for the DHA to deliver these services. He noted that the bank’s existing technology platforms and customer base will be leveraged to support the rollout.

The first phase of the program will be a pilot at TymeBank’s Johannesburg head office, where processes will be tested before expanding nationwide. Once the rollout progresses, customers will be informed when DHA services are available at their nearest TymeBank location.
