Webber Wentzel partners with Legora to develop AI solutions for African legal market

The South African law firm has deployed Legora’s platform firmwide and will co-develop legal technology tailored to Africa through its Innovation Lab.

South African law firm Webber Wentzel has entered into a strategic partnership with legal AI platform Legora, deploying the technology across the firm as part of a long-term collaboration. Legora will also serve as the first anchor technology in Webber Wentzel’s Innovation Lab, which focuses on developing solutions for the South African and broader African legal markets.

The decision follows a year-long evaluation of Legora, including security assessments and comparison with other AI tools. Feedback from legal and business teams across the firm supported the choice to implement Legora at scale.

Through the partnership, Webber Wentzel will act as Legora’s design partner in Africa, contributing to the development of tools adapted to local operational, cultural, and regulatory requirements. Lawyers and technologists from the firm will work with Legora to refine solutions in real time, ensuring they align with the needs of African legal practice.

The Innovation Lab, part of Webber Wentzel Fusion — the firm’s legal technology division — engages with clients to address process, resourcing, data, and technology challenges. As part of this partnership, clients participating in Fusion initiatives will have access to Legora on preferential terms and will be able to test and shape applications directly with the firm’s teams.

Both organizations emphasize that legal technology development must be continuous and collaborative. The partnership reflects a shared approach: combining Legora’s platform with Webber Wentzel’s expertise to build AI tools that integrate into everyday legal workflows and respond to the specific demands of the African market.
