Sage forms Global AI development partnership with Portugal-Based Augusta Labs

Collaboration integrates applied artificial intelligence teams into Sage’s product and engineering operations

Sage, a multinational software company that provides accounting, payroll, and enterprise management solutions for small, medium, and mid-sized organizations, has announced a global partnership with Augusta Labs, an applied artificial intelligence laboratory headquartered in Portugal that works with companies to design and deploy AI systems in production environments.

Under the agreement, multidisciplinary teams from Augusta Labs will work alongside Sage’s internal product and engineering groups to support the development and deployment of AI-driven capabilities across selected Sage platforms and services. The collaboration is intended to expand Sage’s internal capacity in areas such as data engineering, automation, and the integration of AI into operational workflows used by customers.

Sage stated that the partnership will focus on embedding AI development resources directly into its global product organization, rather than operating through external consulting or standalone innovation units. The model is designed to align applied AI work with the company’s existing software architecture, data governance frameworks, and long-term product strategy.

According to Sage, initial workstreams include its payroll and business management platforms, where AI is being applied to improve process automation, data handling, and system responsiveness within existing product environments.

Manav Thiara, Senior Vice President and Technical Fellow for Data, Digital Services and Engineering at Sage, said the partnership is intended to support the company’s internal engineering teams by increasing development capacity and integrating external AI expertise into ongoing product delivery efforts.

Rodrigo Fernandes, co-founder of Augusta Labs, said the collaboration brings together Sage’s software platforms and customer base with Augusta Labs’ experience in building and deploying AI systems for enterprise use, with the aim of developing AI-enabled functionality that can be integrated into business software used across multiple markets.
